We recently completed some big projects and we have even more big projects in construction. So it seemed like a good time to remind everyone that we do small projects, too.

In May, we held a banquet for our employees and gave awards for each Core Value as well as the Gary Grisham Service Award in memory of one of our greatest servant leaders.

Back in 1992, Dow Smith started his company with a little truck and a big dream.

“I was working out of a red Chevy S-10,” Dow remembers. “That was my office and my sole piece of equipment.”

This month, as Dow Smith Company celebrates 32 years in business, we’re thinking back to the beginning.

Thirteen years ago, Adam Comer walked through the doors of Spring 2 Life Recovery needing help.

Today, he’s the CEO.

As the Christian-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation center grows, Adam is working with Dow Smith Company to build a 26-bed facility on its 10-acre McMinnville campus.

Twelve years ago, when Dow Smith’s son was playing football for Smyrna High School, they walked into an opposing team’s weight room and Dow was impressed by the facility and all of the things that were available to that team’s players. But he also had a chip on his shoulder because he didn’t understand why the athletes at Smyrna High didn’t have everything they needed to be successful.

Many of the tools that make a project successful aren’t the kind you can fit in the drawer of a workbench or in the bed of a pickup truck. At Dow Smith Company, we’re a well-trained team that plans out and executes every step of the design-build process. But our company is about even more than that.

Next month will mark a milestone as we complete construction on the ninth and tenth buildings at Seven Oaks Business Park. 

These buildings will open nearly 20 years after local real estate icon Bob Parks began to envision flex office space in Smyrna, which was mostly unheard of in Smyrna and Rutherford County back in 2005. 

This year, Dow Smith Company CEO Joey Rhyne celebrates 20 years with the company.

He recently talked about the highs and lows of the past two decades in an interview on our From The Ground Up podcast.

For Joey, the best part of working at Dow Smith Company is the people.

Back in 2009, we were honored to build Parkway Baptist Church’s facility on Lee Victory Parkway in Smyrna. The nearly 15,000-square-foot project included a worship hall, administrative offices, and ministry education space. Over the years, we’ve kept in touch with the folks at Parkway Baptist and as the church grew, they needed more space. We were honored again to be of service. We recently completed a 7,725-square-foot addition to the church that includes new classrooms, a new all-purpose room, and a remodel of their office area.
