We recently completed work on 1 of 19 Cocktails and Raw Bar. The new bar and restaurant, located at 103 N. Maple Street in Murfreesboro, is open now. 1 of 19 is owned by Shawn and Christy Hackinson, the owners of the popular downtown Murfreesboro restaurant The Alley on Main. The Alley on Main is known for its steak, seafood, and scratch-made pasta dishes.
When the Hackinsons decided to open a cocktail bar around the corner from The Alley on Main, they knew exactly who to call.
Since 2006, The Journey Home has been a resource for unhoused and disadvantaged people in Rutherford County. Several years ago, the organization’s leaders recognized that its current facility would not be able to serve the future needs of our community and they began dreaming bigger.
This week, Journey Home team members and community leaders broke ground of a two-story, 20,000-square-foot facility in Murfreesboro. Dow Smith Company is honored to be the design-builder for the project.

For many years, we received calls from clients who needed small projects completed but they couldn’t get anyone to show up and make that work a priority. So, our Service and Small Projects Division was created to accommodate those requests.

Twelve years ago, when Dow Smith’s son was playing football for Smyrna High School, they walked into an opposing team’s weight room and Dow was impressed by the facility and all of the things that were available to that team’s players. But he also had a chip on his shoulder because he didn’t understand why the athletes at Smyrna High didn’t have everything they needed to be successful.

These buildings will open nearly 20 years after local real estate icon Bob Parks began to envision flex office space in Smyrna, which was mostly unheard of in Smyrna and Rutherford County back in 2005.
After growing up in Washington State and working construction for most of his life, Joel Tellez wound up in Smyrna, where he became a superintendent for Olympian Construction. One day, he was sitting in the pickup line at Thurman Francis Arts Academy in his work truck when Dow Smith—who also had kids at the school—came over and struck up a conversation. A few months later, Joel was working at DSC. Last week, he celebrated 20 years with the company.

We recently completed a bathroom restoration project at Smyrna Middle School (SMS). This project comes after we built an outdoor theater for Smyrna Elementary School in 2023 and a new field house for Smyrna High School in 2024.
